This course focuses on the context in which cabin crew perform their duties and the aircraft and airline-specific procedures to prepare students to be “flight ready” for the industry.

This course has been designed to cover the key roles and responsibilities of airline cabin crew, to provide a high standard of foundational knowledge for cabin crew candidates.

This course is based on the competency framework for cabin crew developed by ICAO, so that students can utilise the knowledge whichever airline they work for.  It also incorporates the basic requirements for many national aviation authorities so that students will lean the most relevant and up to date information.

Course Objectives

This IATA course prepares students to understand the cabin crew profession, its origins and current practices.  Students will learn about the airline industry and the different aircraft types.  They will understand relevant cabin crew functions and learn the emergency and safety procedures on an aircraft.  The course will prepare students to manage passenger interactions in a variety of circumstances.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Age: Seventeen (17) Year Old
  • Local students: GCE “N” Level with 4 passes including Credits in English ; or GCE “O” Levels with 3 passes
  • International students:
  • Completion of High School Qualification (9th year)
  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.0 or Equivalent
  • Work experience: Not required

Mode of Delivery

  • Face to face classroom lecture; Individual/Group presentation/discussion

Assessment Methods

  • Online Assessment – 100 MCQ (Closed Book)

Graduation Requirements

  • Upon successful completion of the course and pass the IATA’s online examination, the students will be awarded the Airline Cabin Crew Training certificate by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Course Duration

  • Full Time: 3 months. 90 hours (5 days x 3 hours per 1 week)
  • Part-Time: 3 months. 90 hours. Two lessons per week
    • 1 Weekday x 3 hours and 1 Weekend x 6 hours
  • Industrial Attachment: Not applicable

Introduction to the Airline Industry

 It covers the evolution of airline and air travel on how the airlines have grown and adapted to worldwide air travel since the early 20th century and some of the latest advantages in passenger comfort and service offered by airlines and aircraft manufacturers. It also covers how airlines are regulated and what is expected of cabin crew and how they fit into the airline’s organisation structure.

Air Transport and Flight Operation

It covers how an airport operates and how passengers get to the aircraft.  It gives an overview and familiarisation of aircraft cabins and explains how an aircraft fly.  It also explains how flying can affect the human body and what this might mean for some of the passengers or crew.

Crew Responsibilities and Cooperation

it covers the duties of the cabin and flight crew and how the two teams interact.  It also provides an over view of communication on board an aircraft.

Managing Abnormal and Emergency Situations

it focuses on what cabin crew do to prevent accidents and how they respond in an abnormal or emergency.  It also covers the emergency equipment on board the aircraft that cabin are expected to use during a situation.

Medical Emergencies Onboard the Aircraft

– it covers the number of medical emergency situations that can happen during the flight and the course of action cabin crew need to take to assist in such situations.

Dangerous Goods

it covers the elements of dangerous goods and the regulations surrounding the carriage on board aircraft, and the appropriate steps that cabin crew need to take in an accident involving a dangerous substance.

Aviation Security

it provides in insight into some of the current security measures at the context of security in the roles of the cabin crew.

Customer Service and Interaction with Passenger

it focuses on each category of passengers with special needs and describe both the regulatory requirements and the customer service etiquette for assisting those passengers.

Airline Catering and Onboard Retail Services

it provides an overview of knowledge that cabin crew needed to acquire when providing services for the passengers and feedback for the airline.  It also covers how meals are served onboard the aircraft, as well as the related retail services, which including a range of effective sales strategies and the financial and accounting principles cabin crew needed to be aware of.

Cabin Crew Professional Development

it covers how a cabin crew member can manage the physical and mental demands of the job and ensure that they are able to contribute to forge their own career path within the airline industry.
