The Full-time program for the Diploma in Business Management can be completed in 9 months. Part-time students can complete the course in 12 months.

Course Synopsis

1. Economics Principles and their Application to Business
This module offers a general insight and understanding of foundations of Economics. The module covers the skills and knowledge on making Economic decisions and the influences of economic forces. On completion of this module, students will have a better understanding of the law of demand and supply; the various types of market conditions, for example, Monopoly, Monopolistic, Oligopoly; the efficiency and fairness of market and the factors which aid in the Economic Growth.

2. Organisational Behaviour
This module offers insight into organisational behaviour, a systematic study of actions and attitudes that people exhibit in organizations applied in relation to the unique characteristics of the hospitality industry. Students will be able to identify the importance of understanding human behaviour and how it affects the manager’s performance. The purpose of this module is to equip the student as well as bring to light the importance of developing ‘people skills’ necessary in the role of communication, motivation, conflict management, overcoming employee resistance and similar concerns as they apply in organisations.

3. Financial Accounting
In this module, students will learn how to create financial statements, examine how costs are classified, how budgets are created and the various reports generated. Utilizing key accounting concepts, the students will analyze how external financial information is used to evaluate organizational performance and to make effective management decisions.

4. Marketing Policy; Planning and Communication
In this module, students will learn the nature, role and value of modern marketing in a wide variety of settings and organisations. This module explores general topic areas, which includes: principle and concepts of marketing, PEST analysis, marketing mix, marketing strategy, marketing research, and sales process and consumer trends.

5. Human Resource Management
This module offers insight into effective human resource management. The module identifies the role of the human resource manager in the corporate world and deals with such responsibilities as recruitment and placement, training and development, compensation, and employee relations. Emphasis will also be placed on providing specific guidance for human resource task generally assigned to line managers. The purpose of this module is to provide students with a fundamental understanding on human resource management concepts and principles as they apply in organisations.

6. Quantitative Methods for Business and Management
Quantitative Methods is the application of mathematical and scientific approaches to solving business and management problems in order to help managers make better decisions. It is intended to provide students with an understanding of the role that quantitative methods play in the decision making process. It encompasses a number of mathematically oriented techniques that have either been developed within the field of management science or been adapted from other disciplines such as the natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, and engineering.

7. Management in Action
This module is designed to provide an integrated overview of the key knowledge and skills-based elements of other modules studied under this diploma programme. Students are expected to understand, evaluate and apply, within a business context, the key theories and concepts covered in the units, particularly in the areas of Financial Accounting, HRM, Economics, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour and Quantitative Methods. They also should be able to understand the nature, role and significance of management activities in a range of organisational set-ups. Identification and explanations of structure and content of meetings and interviews are also taken up in this course. They should be able to employ the various types of written and verbal communication used in the business world. An understanding of information technology used in business communication is the last but not the least expected learning outcome in this module.
